Hi Ms A,
There is no zoning in Houston, hence a great variety of neighboorhood in terms of safety and overal appearance.
A good realtor will guide you through these choices, you need to pick a good one that you feel confortable with.

I would ask the same questions as my fellow Realtors. Where are you going to be working, first and foremost? Is it just you or are you relocating family? Are you a city person or a suburban person? Leasing for a year might be a good option so you get to know the Houston area. I, too, would be happy to help. I specialize in the northern and nortwest part of the city, but can help you just about anywhere. Email me or call me at (281)543-7321. It will be important to work with a Realtor whether you decided to lease or buy. Any one of the fine folks who responded are capable of helping you should you not choose me. Good luck and welcome to the best city in the United States!

Welcome to Houston. The Houston Metropolitan Area is a sprawling area. Unless are interested in a condo, you will probably want to look in one of the suburbs of Houston. Which is the best choice depends on where in Houston you need and want to have easy access. Houston is a great city and surrounded by great areas. Best of luck!

Congratulations on relocating to Houston. Some of the questions you should ask yourself when purchasing a home here are: Where you will be working, do you mind a commute, do you want to live in the suburbs, do you want to be able to walk to restaurants or entertainment, do you have concerns about schools/do you have young children, do you want a large yard. HAR.com can assist you with some of those questions but a qualified REALTOR can help you even further. Let me know if you I can assist you with your home search. You can reach me directly at (281) 788-0495 or dori@dorilacamu.com. Good luck!

Hello Ms. A,

Unless you can pin point the area where you want to live, I suggest that you consider leasing a home for a year to get adjusted to the Houston area. Drives to-and-from can be horrendous.

I would hate for you to get into a home and then second guess the location. It happended after Katrina and I would hate for it to happen to you.

Call me at (281) 404-7979. I can refer you to an area agent.

You've come to a great place. HAR is the place to search for homes in Houston and there are some great agents in this real estate community forum.

I'd be happy to help as well. Shoot me an email or give me a call and we can chat about what you are looking for in your new home. Based on your wants, needs and where you'll be commuting to, we can pin point an area that will work.

We can start by sending you homes/townhomes that fit your criteria and price point in different areas so that you are able to get a feel for what's out there around town.
