I look at 7-10 homes before making the decision. I often find myself in a situation where I like a property, but it is probably somewhat overpriced. A while ago I found the rental platform Rentberry that makes our real estate market more efficient and transparent. Now at least I know whether the price is fair for the property or not.
Typically less than when buying a house, I have seen people make their decision in one afternoon, just visiting 3 or 4 houses. The higher end you go, the more picky the renters go. For high end rentals over $4000 they can visit 10-20 properties.
The number of home a tenant will look for before renting will depend on the tenant, their timeline for moving, their price point and the number of properties available for rent in their price point, and special circumstances they have which will limit their search, etc. There really isn't an "average" tenant since everyone is so very different. I will say that most of the tenants I have worked with start looking for a home when they are 30-45 days from their lease ending and then view a handful of homes before applying. Since the lease application and approval process is fairly quick, one can go from viewing properties to submitting and application, being approved and signing a lease all within a couple of days.
Generally I find that most tenants look at about 6 homes before making their decision... as long as their Realtor has done the "digging" questions so that they may be able to narrow down and eliminate options.
Depends on the person and their Realtor, if you can do all the legwork before meeting (criteria,wants/needs,budget,lifestyle). Normally anywhere from 4-10 max.
Enough to prove to them this is the best fit for them at the best price currently on the market.
