Needing some advice on becoming an agent.

I'm currently enlisted in the Army, stationed in Washington State. I get out in five months and will be returning home to Texas. I've been actively researching and studying for a future in real estate for the past couple of years since I decided this is what I wanted to do. I'm wondering, with the time I have left, should I enroll and in an online school to complete the required 180 hours and have a few months to do so? Then when I return to Texas I'll be able to immediately sign up for the exam. Any advice for my situation would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Dear Noah,

Adding to the invaluable comments. Some Real Estate brokerages also offers semi or full sponsorship. You may look at those before you decide. Contact me if you want to know about sponsorship, pre and post license education opportunities in my brokerage.

Regards.

Noah,

Aside from the answers/advice I have provided on your other questions posted, it would definitely be an amazing idea to find a mentor for yourself. Someone who is trustworthy and has been successful in this industry for many years, who can guide you and point you in the right direction toward success. I hope you find great success here, because you deserve it. THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR SERVICE.

I found that Champion's School of Real Estate was the best for me since they offered both classroom & online settings. Once I took the classroom instruction, I preferred that over the online instruction since the instructors were well versed in everything real estate & could give insight into the "real life" inner workings of the industry Since I have obtained my license, I have found that although all of the information learned in class was essential, there is a huge difference in practicing real estate and studying real estate. On the flip side of that my husband is taking the online classes since it is more conducive to his work schedule. Ultimately it would depend on your needs as a student & your goal for completion.

I found Champions Online School to be perfect for me. I appreciated the course design and found it easy to use and navigate. I especially loved the flash cards they mailed for studying! I felt well prepared for the exam after these courses. As with any online course it involves self discipline and motivation.

Hi again!!

I responded to your post about the real estate school and your other about advise on becoming an agent. :)

As far as your timeline and general advise on becoming a real estate agent in Texas, this is really dependent on your personal situation (time, money for courses and licensing, money to start up your business, etc). If you have the ability to start taking courses now in preparation for your move to Texas, do well in an online course environment and have the funds to get started, I would say go ahead and get going with everything. That way, you'll be ready to take your test when you get here. You can also start researching Brokerages so that you can pick the right Brokerage for you when you have your license.

Hope this helps!

Karen has some great tips please see her comments.

What is important is for you to understand how you learn the best. Some people need a classroom setting to learn. Are you one of these people?
If you pick Online there are many schools, are you OK with reading much material or would a watching videos be better for you.
A career in Real Estate can be great but be prepared to put in the sweat equity for years, and to make little to no money for the first 6 months to a year. Personally it was a great decision for me.

First off - thank you for your service! I'm sure you are excited to get back to Texas. Yes, I would recommend enrolling in an online Real Estate education course. Depending on how you best learn, some are solely online and others have a combination of books as well as online information. I personally used Champion School of Real Estate and opted for the books and online material. While you studying, you might also start investigating real estate brokerages. You will need a broker to sponsor your license when you have passed the test. Doing some investigation now, will help you make the right choice. Since much of real estate is learned as you go, finding a brokerage that offers additional training, support or mentoring may benefit you. Start searching for brokerages around where you plan to live and go from there. Often an agent will strictly look at large brokerages, but there are also small boutique brokerages that could use your skills and benefit you as well. Because of your service in the military, you might also look at getting your MRP (military relocation professional) certification after you get your license to further add to your skill set.
