Choosing a real estate agent is one of the most important decisions you'll make during the buying or selling process. You will want to choose an agent you trust, is experienced and capable of helping you successfully achieve your real estate objective, will provide exceptional service, and preferably an agent you will enjoy working with throughout the process. This is the usual advice you likely have seen before.
I believe the real estate agent you choose should also help you step back from the focus on the singular goal of "getting the deal done". Our real estate decisions, like most important financial decisions, are interconnected with those factors that determine our long-term quality of life. There is usually a tradeoff between short-term quality of life and future or long-term quality of life that only you are in a position to navigate. But these are, in my opinion, decisions that deserve to me made with the information necessary to fairly evaluate these tradeoffs. In short, your agent should help you protect your long-term future for the sake of your family with the same dedication he or she has for helping you achieve your short-term goals.
This belief has motivated me to expand my education beyond real estate. In addition to becoming a REALTOR®, I pursued professional licensing in mortgage lending, retirement planning, and insurance so I could better understand and help clients navigate the financial decisions that often accompany buying or selling a home. Every client and every situation is different. Rather than recommending a one-size-fits-all approach, I believe good decisions begin with understanding your goals, answering your questions, and developing a strategy that's right for you.
Based on my conviction that life's most important financial decisions are interconnected with the many factors that need to balance between short and long-term goals, my hope is to help clients understand those connections so they can make informed decisions with confidence.
