Huffman Area leads Houston-area communities in home sales growth in Q1 2026
HOUSTON — (April 27, 2026) — Homebuyers are finding more attainable options in some of Greater Houston’s fastest-growing communities as new construction inventory expands and helps keep prices competitive.
According to HAR’s latest Hottest Communities in the Houston Area report, the Huffman Area leads the way with a 117.1% jump in home sales in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the prior year. Brookshire followed with a 101.2% increase, while Waller posted a 99.0% rise in transactions. Rounding out the top five are the Meyerland Area (up 66.7%) and Baytown/Harris County (up 61.7%).
New construction continues to play a significant role in many of the communities on the list. More than 70% of transactions in the Huffman Area, Brookshire, Waller, Crosby Area and Magnolia/1488 West involved newly built homes.
Affordability also remains a key driver. Seven of the top 10 communities had average home prices below the Houston-area average of $420,510, as cited in HAR’s March 2026 Housing Market Update.
“We are seeing a shift toward communities where buyers have more flexibility—both in terms of inventory and price points,” said HAR Chair Theresa Hill with Compass RE Texas, LLC - Houston. “Affordability is still one of the biggest factors influencing buyer behavior right now. Communities that can offer that value are the ones seeing the strongest momentum.”

The report also highlights the top-performing luxury communities in the Greater Houston area, where homes are priced above $1 million. The Tanglewood Area recorded the largest year-over-year percentage increase in home sales. There were 20 transactions in the first quarter of 2026, a 25% increase compared to the same time last year. The average home price was $2,083,660.
