Poteet High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 81 in student achievement, 85 in school progress and 80 in closing performance gaps. It scored 84 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.

Both schools garnered only one distinction designation or award for performance. For Poteet High School this is in Science while North Mesquite High School secured one for 25% closing performance gaps.

Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Poteet High School. They make up for 53.82% of student population, followed by African Americans (27.11%), Whites or Caucasians (12.96%), Two or More Races (2.83%), Asians (2.70%) and Native Americans (0.46%).

At North Mesquite High School, Hispanics make up 76.40% of student population, followed by African Americans (14.33%), Whites or Caucasians (6.59%), Two or More Races (1.05%), Native Americans (0.76%) and Asians (0.72%).

Based on household incomes, the Poteet High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 64.34% compared to 81.80% at North Mesquite High School.

In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Poteet High School has 322 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 21.18% of student population. North Mesquite High School has significantly more ELLs at 837 or about 39.99% of student population.

Poteet High School’s bilingual students comprise 20.07%, gifted and talented students, 12.89%, while 12.50% are in the special education program. North Mesquite High School bilingual students comprise 38.13%, gifted and talented students, 9.46%, and 12.61% are in the special education program.

Poteet High School's 110 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 8.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 13.7 years. North Mesquite High School's 151 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 9.2 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 13.1 years.

Of its teaching staff, Poteet High School has three teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 18 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 39 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 33 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 15 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including four beginning teachers. North Mesquite High School has three teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 23 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 52 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 40 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 32 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including two beginning teachers.
