Im want to have a small amount of ducks and small breed chickens. Looking to find out which neighborhoods in west Houston (as far out as cypress or katy) dont have HOAs or HOA that doesnt have a lot of animal restrictions. I know of some but I was wondering if there's an easier way to find out.

There are several ways to find neighborhoods with no HOA. Some of them are: Use online real estate search websites, Check with your real estate agent, Drive around and look for signs, and Check with the local government.

Keep us informed on if you are still needing assistance with this.
Food and urban homesteading, gardening are becoming popular. Although some HOA restrictive covenants may prohibit this type of activity, there are plenty areas with expired restrictions after 25 years and or neighborhoods that don't have HOA's at all. Best of luck with your chickens and ducks. I was fortunate to grow up in a neighborhood that did allow some of this micro farm animal habitation. Fresh eggs are everything!!!

Hi Chelsea! Someone has already answered your question on how to search for properties with No HOA, so I just wanted to add to their answer. After you clear the chicken issue with the HOA, or if there is no HOA, you should check with city/county ordinances. Every city and county is completely different.

It is my understanding Harris County allows up to 30 chickens, but there is a space requirement per chicken and there must be a chicken coop. Even though the city of Deer Park is in Harris County, Deer Park doesn't allow ANY chickens on any property less than 1 acre, and then it's 10 chickens per acre, again with space requirements and chicken coop.

Some HOA's do allow chickens, so it's just a matter of checking the rules of each HOA, along with city and county codes. That said, roosters not allowed, as they make too much noise. In fact, most cities do not allow loud birds of any kind.

It should also be noted that the rules of a smaller entity will take precedence over a larger entitiy. For example, even though Harris County allows 30 chickens, the city of Deer Park only allows for 10 with an acre (unless you have a piece of land with 3 acres). An HOA in Deer Park might only allow for 2 chickens, or none. In that case, the rules of the HOA would take precedence of the city of Deer Park's rules. So just make sure to investigate the rules of HOA, city, and county before moving the chickens in!
