if the property is on or close to a geological fault line or flood area?  Does HAR have databases for such?

Getting the actual crime statistics are best obtained from the HomeOwners Association.  Most associations have a law enforcement representative attending their HOA meetings that can discuss crime in the area.  Another great source is if the neighborhood has a "Neighborhood Crime Watch" that is active.  You can see if there are registered sex offenders in the area by going to www.texasonline.com and go to the Department of Public Safety sex offender search tab.As far as soil conditions, I have been a land developer for 36 years in Texas and especially in the Houston and surrounding area, soil conditions can change drastically just between one property and the neighboring one.  For the most part, the north side has a sandy loam while there is more clay on the south side until you get to the coastal areas.  If you are thinking of building, you really need to get a soil analysis done prior to construction.  I can save you thousands in future problems if you engineer your foundation slab and soil testing is part of that process.
