Mike grew up in Maryland, received a B.S. in mathematics from the University of Maryland and a MBA from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He spent 12 years as an economic and financial consultant at Ernst & Young, six years with Louis Dreyfus Energy Trading and Duke Energy as a risk management executive, and five years as a business owner in the energy industry. He and his wife, empty nesters with two adult sons, enjoy sailing, hiking, and participating in community and church events. They spend several weekends each year leading their church's Catholic Engaged Encounter retreat for couples.
