She is a longtime active member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church having served there in various capacities, including the Administrative Board and past president of the United Methodist Women. She has a bachelor's degree in Spanish from TCU and taught Spanish at River Oaks Elementary for ten years after coming to Houston with her husband and daughter in 1973. Mary is an active supporter of the arts and a long-term resident of West University.
