A native of North Bay, Ontario, Canada, Carlo speaks conversational French and holds a degree in urban geography from York University in Toronto. A fitness buff and runner, he ran track throughout his school years, winning a bronze medal at the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships and then four more bronze medals at the Canadian University Championships.
