As your children go through high school, choosing the right school is equally important as deciding on a perfect home. High school is when students are given the tools to figure out the paths they want to pursue as adults. There are more subjects and extra-curricular activities that students can choose from. When we compared School Of Health Professions, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, with Skyline High School, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
School Of Health Professions’s regular student population is 488 with a student-teacher ratio of 17.9 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Skyline High School is 4,264 students and a student-teacher ratio of 16.8 students/teacher ratio.
School Of Health Professions performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 97 in student achievement, 96 in school progress and an impressive100 in closing performance gaps. It scored 95 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Skyline High School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 70 in student achievement, 75 in school progress, 68 in closing performance gaps and 72 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. School Of Health Professions bagged all seven distinction awards in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Skyline High School’s only distinction designation is in Social Studies.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in School Of Health Professions is Hispanics who make up nearly 79.30% of student population, followed by African Americans (13.73%), Whites or Caucasians (3.07%), Asians (2.87%), Two or More Races (0.82%) and Native Americans (0.20%).
At Skyline High School, Hispanics make up 76.08% of student population, followed by African Americans (21.25%), Whites or Caucasians (1.38%), Two or More Races (0.56%), Asians (0.30%) and Native Americans (0.30%).
Based on household incomes, the School Of Health Professions’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 70.49% compared to 73.26% at Skyline High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, School Of Health Professions has 57 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 11.68% of student population. Skyline High School has significantly more ELLs at 1822 or about 42.73% of student population.
School Of Health Professions’s bilingual students comprise 11.89%, gifted and talented students, 50.00%, while 1.02% are in the special education program. Skyline High School bilingual students comprise 39.54%, gifted and talented students, 17.42%, and 7.95% are in the special education program.
School Of Health Professions's 27 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 8.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 11.8 years. Skyline High School's 253 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 9.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 11.9 years.
Of its teaching staff, School Of Health Professions has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has two teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 11 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, six teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while five teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including two beginning teachers. Skyline High School has 16 teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 35 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 61 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 43 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 82 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 16 beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. School Of Health Professions employs 20 female teachers and seven male teachers. Of its teaching staff, two teachers are aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs two staff members in the school administration department and four more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Skyline High School employs 128 female teachers and 124 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 27 special education teachers are being assisted by 28 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs 12 staff members in the school administration department and 19 more working as school support staff.
