When we compared Legacy High School, which is a part of MIDLAND ISD, with Legacy Freshman High School, which is a part of MIDLAND ISD, we noted a huge gap in ratings.
Legacy High School’s regular student population is 2,338 with a student-teacher ratio of 18.4 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Legacy Freshman High School is 939 students and a student-teacher ratio of 20.2 students/teacher ratio.
Legacy High School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 75 in student achievement, 79 in school progress and 73 in closing performance gaps. It scored 77 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Legacy Freshman High School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365. The school posted 69 in student achievement, 62 in school progress, 39 in closing performance gaps and 60 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Legacy High School and Legacy Freshman High School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Legacy High School. They make up for 61.80% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (24.76%), African Americans (8.25%), Asians (2.52%), Two or More Races (2.14%) and Native Americans (0.43%).
At Legacy Freshman High School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 61.45% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (26.09%), African Americans (8.31%), Two or More Races (2.13%), Asians (1.60%) and Native Americans (0.11%).
Based on household incomes, the Legacy High School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 35.63% compared to 45.15% at Legacy Freshman High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Legacy High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 10.14% of its student population compared to 10.44% at Legacy Freshman High School.
Legacy High School’s bilingual students comprise 9.58%, gifted and talented students, 5.90%, while 6.89% are in the special education program. Legacy Freshman High School bilingual students comprise 9.80%, gifted and talented students, 3.94%, and 8.31% are in the special education program.
Legacy High School's 127 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 11.8 years.
