Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Both schools garnered only six distinction designations or awards for outstanding performance. For Lanier Middle School these are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary and with 25% student progress while Young Women's College Prep Academy secured in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Lanier Middle School. They make up for 31.52% of student population, followed by Hispanics (28.69%), Asians (20.07%), African Americans (12.37%), Two or More Races (7.14%) and Native Americans (0.21%).
The student population at Young Women's College Prep Academy is also predominantly by African Americans at 50.35%, followed by Hispanics (42.62%), Whites or Caucasians (3.04%), Asians (1.64%), Two or More Races (1.64%) and Native Americans (0.47%).
Based on household incomes, the Lanier Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 25.58% compared to 69.79% at Young Women's College Prep Academy.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Lanier Middle School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 8.55% of its student population compared to 6.56% at Young Women's College Prep Academy.
