Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Goose Creek Memorial's five out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Lee High School’s only distinction designation is in Post-Secondary.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Goose Creek Memorial. They make up for 59.66% of student population, followed by African Americans (18.25%), Whites or Caucasians (17.18%), Asians (2.69%), Two or More Races (2.00%) and Native Americans (0.14%).
At Lee High School, Hispanics make up 70.69% of student population, followed by African Americans (15.51%), Whites or Caucasians (11.75%), Two or More Races (1.27%), Asians (0.55%) and Native Americans (0.17%).
Based on household incomes, the Goose Creek Memorial’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 63.65% compared to 72.63% at Lee High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Goose Creek Memorial has 225 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 10.45% of student population. Lee High School has significantly more ELLs at 249 or about 13.80% of student population.
Goose Creek Memorial’s bilingual students comprise 9.89%, gifted and talented students, 8.82%, while 10.91% are in the special education program. Lee High School bilingual students comprise 13.07%, gifted and talented students, 5.32%, and 14.35% are in the special education program.
Goose Creek Memorial's 147 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 10.9 years. Lee High School's 129 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6.2 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 10.8 years.
Of its teaching staff, Goose Creek Memorial has three teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 15 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 57 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 17 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 45 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including ten beginning teachers.
