Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. This is a critical transition period for students. When we compared Four Points Middle School, which is a part of LEANDER ISD, with Canyon Ridge Middle School, which is a part of LEANDER ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Four Points Middle School’s regular student population is 681 with a 13 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Canyon Ridge Middle School is 1,163 students and a 16.3 students/teacher ratio.
Four Points Middle School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 90 in student achievement, 79 in school progress and 78 in closing performance gaps. It scored 86 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Canyon Ridge Middle School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 93 in student achievement, 84 in school progress, 89 in closing performance gaps and 92 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Four Points Middle School's one out of seven distinction is in Social Studies. Canyon Ridge Middle School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Four Points Middle School. They make up for 47.14% of student population, followed by Hispanics (24.38%), Asians (12.48%), African Americans (9.25%) and Two or More Races (6.31%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Canyon Ridge Middle School, Whites or Caucasians are the biggest group, comprising 62.68% of student population, followed by Hispanics (14.27%), Asians (14.19%), Two or More Races (6.79%), African Americans (1.81%) and Native Americans (0.09%).
Based on household incomes, Four Points Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 22.03% compared to 4.47% at Canyon Ridge Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Four Points Middle School has a slightly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 7.93% of its student population compared to 2.92% at Canyon Ridge Middle School.
In addition, Four Points Middle School has 7.78% bilingual students, 31.86% are in the gifted and talented program, while 11.75% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Canyon Ridge Middle School with 2.75% bilingual students, 41.27% gifted and talented students and 10.83% students in the special education program.
Four Points Middle School's 52 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 4.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9.4 years. Teachers at Canyon Ridge Middle School, numbering 71 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 5.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.4 years.

In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Four Points Middle School there are 37 female teachers and 14 male teachers.
