When we compared Fleming Middle School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, with Marshall Middle School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Fleming Middle School’s regular student population is 380 with a 12.5 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Marshall Middle School is 685 students and a 16.2 students/teacher ratio.
Fleming Middle School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 60 in student achievement, 85 in school progress and 81 in closing performance gaps. It scored 84 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Fleming Middle School's three out of seven distinctions are in Science, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Marshall Middle School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at Fleming Middle School. They make up for 60.26% of student population, followed by Hispanics (38.42%), Whites or Caucasians (0.79%) and Two or More Races (0.53%). There is no Asians and Native Americansstudents in the school.
At Marshall Middle School, Hispanics make up 81.17% of student population, followed by African Americans (16.79%), Whites or Caucasians (1.61%), Two or More Races (0.29%) and Native Americans (0.15%). There is no Asians student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Fleming Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 97.37% compared to 97.96% at Marshall Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Fleming Middle School has 83 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 21.84% of student population. Marshall Middle School has significantly more ELLs at 263 or about 38.39% of student population.
In addition, Fleming Middle School has 20.00% bilingual students, 3.95% are in the gifted and talented program, while 17.37% are in the special education program.
