Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Elmore Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, with Sherman Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, we noted a wide disparity in ratings.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Sherman Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Elmore Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Elmore Elementary School. They make up for 57.37% of student population, followed by African Americans (40.88%), Whites or Caucasians (0.88%), Two or More Races (0.70%) and Asians (0.18%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Sherman Elementary School, Hispanics make up 88.10% of student population, followed by African Americans (9.60%), Whites or Caucasians (2.11%) and Two or More Races (0.19%). There is no Asians and Native Americansstudents in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Elmore Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 97.72% compared to 99.04% at Sherman Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Elmore Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 40.35% of its student population compared to 37.62% at Sherman Elementary School.
In addition, Elmore Elementary School has 38.77% bilingual students, 0.88% are in the gifted and talented program, while 10.35% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Sherman Elementary School with 38.20% bilingual students, 2.30% gifted and talented students and 7.87% students in the special education program.
