Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Burnett Elementary School, which is a part of PASADENA ISD, with Kruse Elementary School, which is a part of PASADENA ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Burnett Elementary School has a regular student population of 501 with a 11.3 students/teacher ratio while Kruse Elementary School has 452 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.5 students/teacher ratio.
Burnett Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Burnett Elementary School and Kruse Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Burnett Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 73.85% of student population, followed by African Americans (14.17%), Asians (4.99%), Whites or Caucasians (4.79%) and Two or More Races (2.20%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Kruse Elementary School, Hispanics make up 93.36% of student population, followed by African Americans (3.10%), Whites or Caucasians (3.10%), Native Americans (0.22%) and Two or More Races (0.22%). There is no Asians student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Burnett Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 83.43% compared to 94.91% at Kruse Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Burnett Elementary School has 170 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 33.93% of student population. Kruse Elementary School has slightly more ELLs at 184 or about 40.71% of student population.
Burnett Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 30.94%, gifted and talented students, 2.79%, while 18.36% are in the special education program. Kruse Elementary School bilingual students comprise 36.50%, gifted and talented students, 1.99%, and 10.18% are in the special education program.
