Brandeis High School’s regular student population is 2,856 with a student-teacher ratio of 18.2 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Taft High School is 2,646 students and a student-teacher ratio of 16.7 students/teacher ratio.
Brandeis High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 91 in student achievement, 80 in school progress and 85 in closing performance gaps. It scored 89 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Taft High School also earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 89 in student achievement, 82 in school progress, 78 in closing performance gaps and 86 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Both schools garnered only one distinction designation or award for performance. For Brandeis High School this is in Science while Taft High School secured one for Social Studies.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Brandeis High School. They make up for 57.49% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (25.32%), Asians (8.37%), African Americans (5.15%), Two or More Races (3.36%) and Native Americans (0.14%).
At Taft High School, Hispanics make up 66.33% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (17.76%), African Americans (8.65%), Asians (3.48%), Two or More Races (3.44%) and Native Americans (0.19%).
Based on household incomes, the Brandeis High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 23.81% compared to 38.10% at Taft High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Brandeis High School has 132 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 4.62% of student population. Taft High School has significantly more ELLs at 154 or about 5.82% of student population.
Brandeis High School’s bilingual students comprise 4.73%, gifted and talented students, 12.50%, while 9.59% are in the special education program. Taft High School bilingual students comprise 4.88%, gifted and talented students, 8.81%, and 10.39% are in the special education program.
Brandeis High School's 157 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 8.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 12 years. Taft High School's 158 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 8.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 11.8 years.
Of its teaching staff, Brandeis High School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has 28 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 63 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 23 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 32 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 11 beginning teachers. In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Brandeis High School employs 101 female teachers and 55 male teachers.
