Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Bluebonnet Elementary School, which is a part of KELLER ISD, with Liberty Elementary School, which is a part of KELLER ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Bluebonnet Elementary School has a regular student population of 576 with a 13.6 students/teacher ratio while Liberty Elementary School has 464 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.6 students/teacher ratio.
Bluebonnet Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 78 in student achievement, 89 in school progress and 75 in closing performance gaps. It scored 85 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Liberty Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 93 in student achievement, 91 in school progress, 98 in closing performance gaps and 95 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Bluebonnet Elementary School and Liberty Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Bluebonnet Elementary School. They make up for 49.13% of student population, followed by Hispanics (27.26%), African Americans (9.20%), Asians (7.99%), Two or More Races (6.08%) and Native Americans (0.35%).
At Liberty Elementary School, Whites or Caucasians make up 70.91% of student population, followed by Asians (11.64%), Hispanics (10.78%), Two or More Races (4.53%) and African Americans (2.16%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Bluebonnet Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 40.28% compared to 7.11% at Liberty Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Bluebonnet Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 12.67% of its student population compared to 3.66% at Liberty Elementary School.
In addition, Bluebonnet Elementary School has 11.81% bilingual students, 3.99% are in the gifted and talented program, while 10.76% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Liberty Elementary School with 3.45% bilingual students, 7.11% gifted and talented students and 11.85% students in the special education program.
