Smithfield Middle School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 93 in student achievement, 91 in school progress and 93 in closing performance gaps. It scored 93 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

It is in this area where the two schools differ. Smithfield Middle School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Shady Brook Elementary School’s three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science and with 25% student progress.

Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Smithfield Middle School. They make up for 59.65% of student population, followed by Hispanics (22.56%), African Americans (6.39%), Asians (5.76%), Two or More Races (4.64%) and Native Americans (0.88%).

The student population at Shady Brook Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 28.32%, followed by Hispanics (26.42%), African Americans (24.87%), Asians (8.98%), Two or More Races (8.98%) and Native Americans (0.17%).

Based on household incomes, the Smithfield Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 27.07% compared to 64.59% at Shady Brook Elementary School.

In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Smithfield Middle School has 46 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 5.76% of student population. Shady Brook Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 136 or about 23.49% of student population.
