Wester Middle School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 95 in student achievement, 93 in school progress and 94 in closing performance gaps. It scored 95 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

On the other hand, Nelson Middle School also performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 97 in student achievement, 95 in school progress, 95 in closing performance gaps and 96 overall in post-secondary readiness.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.

Both schools garnered all of seven distinction designations or awards for outstanding performance. These are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.

Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Asians comprise the biggest group at Wester Middle School. They make up for 42.48% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (30.61%), Hispanics (11.76%), African Americans (8.82%), Two or More Races (5.56%) and Native Americans (0.65%).

At Nelson Middle School, Asians make up 72.30% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (14.35%), African Americans (4.30%), Hispanics (4.20%), Two or More Races (3.02%) and Native Americans (1.74%).

Based on household incomes, Wester Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 11.87% compared to 4.75% at Nelson Middle School.

In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Wester Middle School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 6.21% of its student population compared to 1.55% at Nelson Middle School.

In addition, Wester Middle School has 6.10% bilingual students, 15.80% are in the gifted and talented program, while 11.98% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Nelson Middle School with 1.55% bilingual students, 27.15% gifted and talented students and 9.32% students in the special education program.
