Celebrate Burton’s History and Honor Former and Current Texas Rangers with Living History, Food, Live Music, and Fun

The Burton Heritage Society hosts the fifth annual Texas Ranger Day in historic Burton, Texas with an action-packed day that benefits the restoration of Mt. Zion Historical Chapel.

Burton, Texas March 11, 2017—Which famous Texas Ranger lived and died in Burton, Texas? Discover the answer to this question and much more at Texas Ranger Day hosted by the Burton Heritage Society.  The day begins with the Annie Maud Avis Memorial Fajita and Bean Cook-off, and live re-enactments by the Old West Rangers.  The living history continues with a display of Texas Ranger 1880s camp life, and folk life demonstrations.

The fun continues with old-fashioned games for kids of all ages.  Tour the 1898 Burton Railroad Depot (anytime), and the Burton Farmers Gin at the Texas Cotton Gin Museum at 10am & 2pm.  Live music with Kountry Chick DJ.

A silent auction rounds out the day to raise much-needed funds for Mt. Zion Historical Chapel at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Burton, Texas.  “For around 100 years, Mt. Zion Baptist Church was part of the social and religious fabric of the Burton community.  It served as the closest church prior to and during construction by other churches, as well as, a gathering place for celebrations and gatherings,” says Susan Kiel, President of the Burton Heritage Society.

So mark your calendars for a day of Texas history, food, fun AND do your part to preserve a vital piece of the Burton community.

March 1973, the Burton Heritage Society organized to preserve and share the history of the community.  Projects included restoration of the Mt. Zion Cemetery, the 1906 Burton Bank building, the 1898 Burton Railroad Depot and the Mt. Zion Historical Chapel. The organization is still going strong and actively maintains and protects the Burton Railroad Depot and the Mt. Zion Historical Chapel. The Burton Heritage Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
