Is it common for realtors to charge a tenant for commission payment?

I have a client that I’ve been working with for about six weeks. It’s just been a very long process from seeing homes in Katy to Hockley to Tomball, she has finally decided on a home, but the commission rate offered by the property management company is very low. The amount being offered is not fair for the amount of work that I have put in. I have never had to bill a tenant client for a commission before, but I am considering it. We do have a representation agreement in place, and she’s a very sweet older lady. I don’t want to make the experience negative for her, but I also want to be fairly compensated. They are offering $300 on $1800.

Good evening JessicaCovering your rental commission fee is understandable and there is nothing wrong with that. Realistically, that is just how the market operates. Rental transactions can be tricky, especially with property management, I had to learn the hard way which was just biting the bullet and understanding unfortunately that is what they are offering.With the new law in place, you now have the advantage of asking upfront about what is included so you can have all the details clearly before moving forward with the transaction
