She is one of the co-founders of the non-profit CAFA Foundation which is dedicated to providing scholarships to needy Garifuna high school students in Punta Gorda, Belize. Since its inception in 2002 the Foundation has funded 62 scholarships. There are currently 21 student participants in the program. Bernadette is actively involved in all aspects of the day-to-day activities of running the Foundation.
