Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Woodrow Wilson High School bagged all seven distinction awards in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. School Of Science And Engineering’s six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Woodrow Wilson High School. They make up for 59.23% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (31.22%), African Americans (6.75%), Two or More Races (1.69%), Asians (0.90%) and Native Americans (0.16%).
At School Of Science And Engineering, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 63.67% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (12.77%), Asians (12.57%), African Americans (9.38%) and Two or More Races (1.00%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Woodrow Wilson High School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 53.43% compared to 51.10% at School Of Science And Engineering.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Woodrow Wilson High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 28.38% of its student population compared to 9.98% at School Of Science And Engineering.
In addition, Woodrow Wilson High School has 24.53% bilingual students, 18.67% are in the gifted and talented program, while 10.28% are in the special education program. This stacks up against School Of Science And Engineering with 9.58% bilingual students, 65.27% gifted and talented students and 2.20% students in the special education program.
