Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Whispering Pines Elementary School, which is a part of HUMBLE ISD, with Shadow Forest Elementary School, which is a part of HUMBLE ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
Whispering Pines Elementary School has a regular student population of 618 with a 12.4 students/teacher ratio while Shadow Forest Elementary School has 619 students and a student-teacher ratio of 16.2 students/teacher ratio.
Whispering Pines Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 57 in student achievement, 75 in school progress and 64 in closing performance gaps. On the other hand, Shadow Forest Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 91 in student achievement, 88 in school progress, 87 in closing performance gaps and 90 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Whispering Pines Elementary School and Shadow Forest Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Whispering Pines Elementary School. They make up for 44.01% of student population, followed by African Americans (38.51%), Whites or Caucasians (9.71%), Two or More Races (3.72%) and Asians (3.24%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Shadow Forest Elementary School, Whites or Caucasians make up 67.37% of student population, followed by Hispanics (16.80%), Asians (7.59%), Two or More Races (4.20%) and African Americans (3.55%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Whispering Pines Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 68.12% compared to 14.70% at Shadow Forest Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Whispering Pines Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 12.46% of its student population compared to 3.07% at Shadow Forest Elementary School.
In addition, Whispering Pines Elementary School has 11.65% bilingual students, 2.75% are in the gifted and talented program, while 10.68% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Shadow Forest Elementary School with 2.58% bilingual students, 8.72% gifted and talented students and 11.79% students in the special education program.
50 teachers employed at Whispering Pines Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 4.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9.5 years. The 38 teachers at Shadow Forest Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 10.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging 15.3 years.
