A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Westbrook Intermediate's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Social Studies, post-secondary and with 25% student progress. League City Intermediate’s three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics and post-secondary.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Westbrook Intermediate. They make up for 31.57% of student population, followed by Asians (27.42%), Whites or Caucasians (27.16%), African Americans (8.74%), Two or More Races (4.67%) and Native Americans (0.17%).
At League City Intermediate, Whites or Caucasians are the biggest group, comprising 55.49% of student population, followed by Hispanics (23.12%), Asians (10.15%), Two or More Races (6.26%), African Americans (4.35%) and Native Americans (0.36%).
Based on household incomes, Westbrook Intermediate’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 37.28% compared to 20.76% at League City Intermediate.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Westbrook Intermediate has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 11.85% of its student population compared to 5.98% at League City Intermediate.
In addition, Westbrook Intermediate has 11.33% bilingual students, 46.28% are in the gifted and talented program, while 9.60% are in the special education program. This stacks up against League City Intermediate with 5.80% bilingual students, 58.30% gifted and talented students and 8.16% students in the special education program.
