Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Vogel Intermediate's four out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Irons Junior High School’s three out of seven distinctions are in Science, Social Studies and post-secondary.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Vogel Intermediate. They make up for 41.40% of student population, followed by Hispanics (38.06%), African Americans (12.41%), Two or More Races (4.07%), Asians (2.71%) and Native Americans (0.83%).
The student population at Irons Junior High School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 37.61%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (37.53%), African Americans (15.58%), Asians (4.60%), Two or More Races (3.95%) and Native Americans (0.48%).
Based on household incomes, Vogel Intermediate’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 46.30% compared to 44.87% at Irons Junior High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Vogel Intermediate has a slightly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 20.44% of its student population compared to 14.45% at Irons Junior High School.
In addition, Vogel Intermediate has 19.60% bilingual students, 8.24% are in the gifted and talented program, while 13.35% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Irons Junior High School with 12.75% bilingual students, 9.60% gifted and talented students and 8.80% students in the special education program.
Vogel Intermediate's 64 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.3 years. Teachers at Irons Junior High School, numbering 75 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 5.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9.7 years.
