When we compared Valle Verde Early College High School, which is a part of YSLETA ISD, with Eastwood High School, which is a part of YSLETA ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Valle Verde Early College High School’s regular student population is 378 with a student-teacher ratio of 17.9 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Eastwood High School is 2,398 students and a student-teacher ratio of 16.7 students/teacher ratio.
Valle Verde Early College High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 97 in student achievement, 96 in school progress and an impressive100 in closing performance gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Valle Verde Early College High School’s four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Eastwood High School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Valle Verde Early College High School is Hispanics who make up nearly 94.97% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (2.91%), African Americans (1.59%), Asians (0.26%) and Native Americans (0.26%). There is no Two or More Races student in the school.
At Eastwood High School, Hispanics make up 93.87% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (4.21%), African Americans (1.13%), Asians (0.46%), Native Americans (0.17%) and Two or More Races (0.04%).
Based on household incomes, Valle Verde Early College High School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 62.43% compared to 54.17% at Eastwood High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Valle Verde Early College High School has 29 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 7.67% of student population. Eastwood High School has significantly more ELLs at 301 or about 12.55% of student population.
Valle Verde Early College High School’s bilingual students comprise 10.58%, gifted and talented students, 21.96%, while 2.12% are in the special education program. Eastwood High School bilingual students comprise 15.43%, gifted and talented students, 8.97%, and 10.22% are in the special education program.
Valle Verde Early College High School's 21 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 16 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 18.2 years. Eastwood High School's 144 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 12 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 14 years.
Of its teaching staff, Valle Verde Early College High School has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has seven teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, nine teachers have worked for 11-20 years, one teacher only has worked for 6-10 years, while two teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, and school has no beginning teacher.
