Tyler High School’s regular student population is 2,126 with a student-teacher ratio of 15.2 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Tyler Legacy High School is 2,486 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.8 students/teacher ratio.
Tyler High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 82 in student achievement, 86 in school progress and 72 in closing performance gaps. It scored 82 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Tyler Legacy High School also earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 87 in student achievement, 87 in school progress, 76 in closing performance gaps and 84 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Tyler High School’s only distinction designation is in Post-Secondary. Tyler Legacy High School's four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science and post-secondary.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Tyler High School. They make up for 64.86% of student population, followed by African Americans (31.23%), Whites or Caucasians (2.68%), Two or More Races (0.80%), Native Americans (0.28%) and Asians (0.09%).
The student population at Tyler Legacy High School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 38.33%, followed by Hispanics (27.84%), African Americans (26.91%), Two or More Races (3.70%), Asians (2.86%) and Native Americans (0.24%).
Based on household incomes, Tyler High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 89.46% compared to 58.45% at Tyler Legacy High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Tyler High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 31.61% of its student population compared to 7.32% at Tyler Legacy High School.
In addition, Tyler High School has 30.01% bilingual students, 7.71% are in the gifted and talented program, while 7.76% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Tyler Legacy High School with 6.44% bilingual students, 15.89% gifted and talented students and 8.21% students in the special education program.
Tyler High School's 140 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 10.9 years.
