Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Travis Elementary School, which is a part of LAMAR CISD, with John Arredondo Elementary School, which is a part of LAMAR CISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Travis Elementary School has a regular student population of 401 with a 12.3 students/teacher ratio while John Arredondo Elementary School has 1,002 students and a student-teacher ratio of 18.4 students/teacher ratio.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
John Arredondo Elementary School's one out of seven distinction is in Science. Travis Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Travis Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 81.80% of student population, followed by African Americans (8.98%), Whites or Caucasians (8.23%), Two or More Races (0.50%) and Asians (0.25%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at John Arredondo Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 41.82%, followed by African Americans (29.54%), Whites or Caucasians (13.97%), Asians (10.98%) and Two or More Races (3.59%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Travis Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 81.05% compared to 55.99% at John Arredondo Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Travis Elementary School has 124 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 30.92% of student population. John Arredondo Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 233 or about 23.25% of student population.
In addition, Travis Elementary School has 30.92% bilingual students, 4.74% are in the gifted and talented program, while 15.71% are in the special education program. This stacks up against John Arredondo Elementary School with 23.25% bilingual students, 5.89% gifted and talented students and 16.37% students in the special education program.
