Tomball High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 93 in student achievement, 85 in school progress and 85 in closing performance gaps. It scored 91 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

On the other hand, Tomball Star Academy also performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 97 in student achievement, 96 in school progress, 100 in closing performance gaps and 98 overall in post-secondary readiness.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.

It is in this area where the two schools differ. Tomball High School’s only distinction designation is in Social Studies. Tomball Star Academy's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Social Studies, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps.

Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Tomball High School. They make up for 51.52% of student population, followed by Hispanics (36.47%), African Americans (5.28%), Two or More Races (3.83%), Asians (2.50%) and Native Americans (0.39%).

The student population at Tomball Star Academy is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 42.90%, followed by Hispanics (36.36%), Asians (10.80%), African Americans (5.97%), Two or More Races (3.13%) and Native Americans (0.85%).

Based on household incomes, Tomball High School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 33.23% compared to 27.56% at Tomball Star Academy.

In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Tomball High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 6.72% of its student population compared to 0.57% at Tomball Star Academy.

In addition, Tomball High School has 6.41% bilingual students, 8.87% are in the gifted and talented program, while 8.01% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Tomball Star Academy with 0.57% bilingual students, 15.34% gifted and talented students and 1.14% students in the special education program.

Tomball Star Academy no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has one teacher only serving the school for 20-30 years, seven teachers have worked for 11-20 years, eight teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while five teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including one beginning teacher only.

In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Tomball High School employs 82 female teachers and 56 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 14 special education teachers are being assisted by 26 teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
