When we compared Stephen F Austin High School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, with Willowridge High School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, we noted a wide disparity in ratings.
Stephen F Austin High School’s regular student population is 2,256 with a student-teacher ratio of 18 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Willowridge High School is 1,289 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.2 students/teacher ratio.
Stephen F Austin High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 93 in student achievement, 87 in school progress and 80 in closing performance gaps. It scored 89 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Willowridge High School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365. The school posted 59 in student achievement, 69 in school progress, 56 in closing performance gaps and 59 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Stephen F Austin High School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and post-secondary. Willowridge High School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Asians comprise the biggest group at Stephen F Austin High School. They make up for 46.32% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (17.24%), African Americans (16.67%), Hispanics (16.49%), Two or More Races (2.97%) and Native Americans (0.22%).
The student population at Willowridge High School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 53.30%, followed by African Americans (43.83%), Two or More Races (1.32%), Whites or Caucasians (0.85%), Native Americans (0.39%) and Asians (0.31%).
Based on household incomes, the Stephen F Austin High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 36.26% compared to 87.51% at Willowridge High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Stephen F Austin High School has 179 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 7.93% of student population. Willowridge High School has significantly more ELLs at 285 or about 22.11% of student population.
Stephen F Austin High School’s bilingual students comprise 7.54%, gifted and talented students, 6.56%, while 7.49% are in the special education program. Willowridge High School bilingual students comprise 20.79%, gifted and talented students, 0.70%, and 13.89% are in the special education program.
Stephen F Austin High School's 125 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 10.9 years. Willowridge High School's 105 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 5.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 10.4 years.
Of its teaching staff, Stephen F Austin High School has four teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 16 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 36 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 27 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 37 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including six beginning teachers. In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Stephen F Austin High School employs 70 female teachers and 55 male teachers. On the other hand, Willowridge High School employs 58 female teachers and 46 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, eight special education teachers are being assisted by ten teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs seven staff members in the school administration department and 17 more working as school support staff.
