When we compared Stephen F Austin High School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, with Hightower High School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Stephen F Austin High School’s regular student population is 2,256 with a student-teacher ratio of 18 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Hightower High School is 2,356 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17 students/teacher ratio.
Stephen F Austin High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 93 in student achievement, 87 in school progress and 80 in closing performance gaps. It scored 89 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Hightower High School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 71 in student achievement, 69 in school progress, 68 in closing performance gaps and 70 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Stephen F Austin High School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and post-secondary. Hightower High School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Asians comprise the biggest group at Stephen F Austin High School. They make up for 46.32% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (17.24%), African Americans (16.67%), Hispanics (16.49%), Two or More Races (2.97%) and Native Americans (0.22%).
At Hightower High School, African Americans are the biggest group, comprising 60.14% of student population, followed by Hispanics (29.12%), Asians (6.71%), Two or More Races (2.04%), Whites or Caucasians (1.66%) and Native Americans (0.30%).
Based on household incomes, the Stephen F Austin High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 36.26% compared to 60.95% at Hightower High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Stephen F Austin High School has 179 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 7.93% of student population. Hightower High School has significantly more ELLs at 223 or about 9.47% of student population.
