Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Spring Shadows Elementary School, which is a part of SPRING BRANCH ISD, with Wilchester Elementary School, which is a part of SPRING BRANCH ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Spring Shadows Elementary School has a regular student population of 617 with a 14.4 students/teacher ratio while Wilchester Elementary School has 796 students and a student-teacher ratio of 18 students/teacher ratio.

It is in this area where the two schools differ. Spring Shadows Elementary School’s two out of seven distinctions are in Science and 25% closing performance gaps. Wilchester Elementary School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Spring Shadows Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 80.06% of student population, followed by African Americans (14.26%), Whites or Caucasians (3.89%), Two or More Races (1.46%) and Asians (0.32%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Wilchester Elementary School, Whites or Caucasians make up 73.24% of student population, followed by Hispanics (11.81%), Asians (10.68%), Two or More Races (2.26%), African Americans (1.88%) and Native Americans (0.13%).
Based on household incomes, Spring Shadows Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 94.17% compared to 7.79% at Wilchester Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Spring Shadows Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 60.78% of its student population compared to 8.92% at Wilchester Elementary School.
In addition, Spring Shadows Elementary School has 60.62% bilingual students, 1.62% are in the gifted and talented program, while 15.07% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Wilchester Elementary School with 8.67% bilingual students, 15.20% gifted and talented students and 7.91% students in the special education program.
