Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Spring Garden Elementary School, which is a part of HURST-EULESS-BEDFORD ISD, with Stonegate Elementary School, which is a part of HURST-EULESS-BEDFORD ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Spring Garden Elementary School has a regular student population of 567 with a 14.4 students/teacher ratio while Stonegate Elementary School has 511 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17.6 students/teacher ratio.
Spring Garden Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Both schools garnered only five distinction designations or awards for outstanding performance. For Spring Garden Elementary School these are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps while Stonegate Elementary School secured in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Spring Garden Elementary School. They make up for 40.21% of student population, followed by Hispanics (25.93%), African Americans (19.58%), Two or More Races (8.11%), Asians (5.11%) and Native Americans (0.35%).
The student population at Stonegate Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 30.53%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (30.72%), African Americans (22.90%), Two or More Races (8.61%), Asians (2.94%) and Native Americans (0.39%).
Based on household incomes, the Spring Garden Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 47.27% compared to 66.73% at Stonegate Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Spring Garden Elementary School has 54 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 9.52% of student population. Stonegate Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 86 or about 16.83% of student population.
Spring Garden Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 9.17%, gifted and talented students, 4.76%, while 17.46% are in the special education program. Stonegate Elementary School bilingual students comprise 16.05%, gifted and talented students, 2.35%, and 14.87% are in the special education program.
