When we compared Shepton High School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, with Plano East Sr High School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Shepton High School’s regular student population is 1,437 with a student-teacher ratio of 16.2 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Plano East Sr High School is 3,123 students and a student-teacher ratio of 16.8 students/teacher ratio.
Shepton High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 82 in student achievement, 80 in school progress and 76 in closing performance gaps. It scored 80 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Plano East Sr High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 92 in student achievement, 87 in school progress, 84 in closing performance gaps and 90 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Shepton High School’s four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Social Studies and with 25% student progress. Plano East Sr High School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and with 25% student progress.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Shepton High School. They make up for 32.64% of student population, followed by Hispanics (30.97%), African Americans (19.90%), Asians (11.55%), Two or More Races (4.31%) and Native Americans (0.49%).
The student population at Plano East Sr High School is also predominantly by Asians at 32.53%, followed by Hispanics (28.79%), Whites or Caucasians (24.56%), African Americans (10.44%), Two or More Races (3.52%) and Native Americans (0.13%).
Based on household incomes, Shepton High School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 34.17% compared to 30.23% at Plano East Sr High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Shepton High School has 261 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 18.16% of student population. Plano East Sr High School has significantly more ELLs at 332 or about 10.63% of student population.
In addition, Shepton High School has 17.95% bilingual students, 16.14% are in the gifted and talented program, while 9.67% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Plano East Sr High School with 10.12% bilingual students, 23.73% gifted and talented students and 9.09% students in the special education program.
Shepton High School's 88 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 11 years. Plano East Sr High School's 185 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 9.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 13.9 years.
Of its teaching staff, Shepton High School has three teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has ten teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 20 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 30 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 20 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including seven beginning teachers. Plano East Sr High School has 11 teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 35 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 61 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 34 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 37 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including eight beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Shepton High School employs 58 female teachers and 29 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 24 special education teachers are being assisted by seven teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs five staff members in the school administration department and eight more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Plano East Sr High School employs 104 female teachers and 81 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 29 special education teachers are being assisted by 15 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs ten staff members in the school administration department and 16 more working as school support staff.
