When we compared School For The Talented And Gifted, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, with W H Adamson High School, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
School For The Talented And Gifted’s regular student population is 502 with a student-teacher ratio of 18.9 students/teacher ratio. The student population at W H Adamson High School is 1,497 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.9 students/teacher ratio.
School For The Talented And Gifted performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 99 in student achievement, 99 in school progress and an impressive100 in closing performance gaps. It scored 97 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, W H Adamson High School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 77 in student achievement, 83 in school progress, 73 in closing performance gaps and 82 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. School For The Talented And Gifted bagged all seven distinction awards in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. W H Adamson High School’s only distinction designation is in Science.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at School For The Talented And Gifted. They make up for 38.25% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (31.47%), Asians (18.33%), African Americans (7.97%), Two or More Races (2.79%) and Native Americans (0.60%).
At W H Adamson High School, Hispanics make up 94.92% of student population, followed by African Americans (2.61%), Whites or Caucasians (1.34%), Native Americans (0.53%), Two or More Races (0.33%) and Asians (0.27%).
Based on household incomes, the School For The Talented And Gifted’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 38.45% compared to 96.19% at W H Adamson High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, School For The Talented And Gifted has 22 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 4.38% of student population. W H Adamson High School has significantly more ELLs at 919 or about 61.39% of student population.
School For The Talented And Gifted’s bilingual students comprise 4.78%, gifted and talented students, 81.47%, while 1.99% are in the special education program. W H Adamson High School bilingual students comprise 56.78%, gifted and talented students, 14.36%, and 8.02% are in the special education program.
School For The Talented And Gifted's 26 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 9.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 11.6 years. W H Adamson High School's 100 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 5.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 7.8 years.
Of its teaching staff, School For The Talented And Gifted has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has three teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, ten teachers have worked for 11-20 years, eight teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while five teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, and school has no beginning teacher. W H Adamson High School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has five teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 21 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 22 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 43 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including nine beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. School For The Talented And Gifted employs 15 female teachers and 11 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, one teacher is aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs one staff members in the school administration department and one more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, W H Adamson High School employs 53 female teachers and 47 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 13 special education teachers are being assisted by 12 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs five staff members in the school administration department and 12 more working as school support staff.
