Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. This is a critical transition period for students. As they assert their independence, their responsibilities increase, they attend multiple classes and their academic performance are closely monitored and graded. Schools focus on preparing them for the more rigorous academic grind in high school.
When we compared Schindewolf Intermediate, which is a part of KLEIN ISD, with Hildebrandt Intermediate, which is a part of KLEIN ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Schindewolf Intermediate’s regular student population is 1,137 with a 15.5 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Hildebrandt Intermediate is 1,060 students and a 14 students/teacher ratio.
Schindewolf Intermediate earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 80 in student achievement, 81 in school progress and 75 in closing performance gaps. It scored 79 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Hildebrandt Intermediate earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 80 in student achievement, 82 in school progress, 75 in closing performance gaps and 80 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Schindewolf Intermediate's one out of seven distinction is in Science. Hildebrandt Intermediate did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Schindewolf Intermediate. They make up for 40.55% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (29.99%), African Americans (17.24%), Asians (7.83%), Two or More Races (4.05%) and Native Americans (0.26%).
The student population at Hildebrandt Intermediate is also predominantly by Hispanics at 46.98%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (30.66%), African Americans (13.21%), Asians (4.25%), Two or More Races (3.77%) and Native Americans (1.04%).
Based on household incomes, the Schindewolf Intermediate’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 52.33% compared to 54.06% at Hildebrandt Intermediate.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Schindewolf Intermediate has 148 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 13.02% of student population. Hildebrandt Intermediate has significantly more ELLs at 205 or about 19.34% of student population.
In addition, Schindewolf Intermediate has 12.49% bilingual students, 8.71% are in the gifted and talented program, while 13.28% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Hildebrandt Intermediate with 18.68% bilingual students, 9.25% gifted and talented students and 13.87% students in the special education program.
Schindewolf Intermediate's 73 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 8.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging 12.1 years. Teachers at Hildebrandt Intermediate, numbering 75 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 7.2 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.3 years.
Of its teaching staff, Schindewolf Intermediate has three teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 14 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 20 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 11 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 19 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including seven beginning teachers. Hildebrandt Intermediate has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has 15 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 16 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 17 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 19 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including seven beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Schindewolf Intermediate there are 49 female teachers and 24 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 14 special education teachers are being assisted by seven teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has three staff members in the school administration department and seven more working as school support staff.
At Hildebrandt Intermediate there are 59 female teachers and 16 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 15 special education teachers are being assisted by ten teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has three staff members in the school administration department and eight more working as school support staff.
