When we compared Rice Sch /La Escuela Rice, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, with Harris R P Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, we noted that the two schools are on opposite ends of the ratings spectrum.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Rice Sch /La Escuela Rice's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Harris R P Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at Rice Sch /La Escuela Rice. They make up for 45.86% of student population, followed by Hispanics (45.29%), Asians (3.95%), Whites or Caucasians (3.11%) and Two or More Races (1.69%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Harris R P Elementary School, Hispanics make up 84.21% of student population, followed by African Americans (14.70%), Whites or Caucasians (0.91%) and Two or More Races (0.18%). There is no Asians and Native Americansstudents in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Rice Sch /La Escuela Rice’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 69.59% compared to 96.55% at Harris R P Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Rice Sch /La Escuela Rice has 244 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 22.98% of student population. Harris R P Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 356 or about 64.61% of student population.
Rice Sch /La Escuela Rice’s bilingual students comprise 21.47%, gifted and talented students, 22.79%, while 8.57% are in the special education program. Harris R P Elementary School bilingual students comprise 64.79%, gifted and talented students, 1.45%, and 4.54% are in the special education program.
