When we compared R C Barton Middle School, which is a part of HAYS CISD, with Armando Chapa Middle School, which is a part of HAYS CISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
R C Barton Middle School’s regular student population is 758 with a 15.2 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Armando Chapa Middle School is 671 students and a 13.5 students/teacher ratio.
R C Barton Middle School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. R C Barton Middle School bagged all seven distinction awards in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Armando Chapa Middle School’s two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and with 25% student progress.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at R C Barton Middle School. They make up for 52.11% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (37.73%), African Americans (4.35%), Two or More Races (3.56%), Asians (1.72%) and Native Americans (0.26%).
At Armando Chapa Middle School, Hispanics make up 72.88% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (17.73%), African Americans (5.51%), Two or More Races (2.53%) and Asians (1.19%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the R C Barton Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 31.00% compared to 64.08% at Armando Chapa Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, R C Barton Middle School has 48 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 6.33% of student population. Armando Chapa Middle School has significantly more ELLs at 158 or about 23.55% of student population.
