Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Pond Springs Elementary School, which is a part of ROUND ROCK ISD, with Forest North Elementary School, which is a part of ROUND ROCK ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Pond Springs Elementary School has a regular student population of 456 with a 10.8 students/teacher ratio while Forest North Elementary School has 242 students and a student-teacher ratio of 9.4 students/teacher ratio.
Pond Springs Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 85 in student achievement, 90 in school progress and 86 in closing performance gaps. It scored 89 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Forest North Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and with 25% student progress. Pond Springs Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Pond Springs Elementary School. They make up for 50.88% of student population, followed by Hispanics (26.10%), Two or More Races (9.65%), African Americans (6.80%), Asians (6.14%) and Native Americans (0.22%).
The student population at Forest North Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 37.19%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (28.10%), African Americans (17.77%), Asians (8.68%) and Two or More Races (7.85%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Pond Springs Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 21.49% compared to 46.28% at Forest North Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Pond Springs Elementary School has 39 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 8.55% of student population. Forest North Elementary School has more ELLs at 45 or about 18.60% of student population.
Pond Springs Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 8.55%, gifted and talented students, 9.21%, while 12.50% are in the special education program. Forest North Elementary School bilingual students comprise 18.18%, gifted and talented students, 5.79%, and 16.12% are in the special education program.

The 25 teachers at Forest North Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 6.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9 years.
