Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Pietzsch/Mac Arthur Elementary School, which is a part of BEAUMONT ISD, with Dishman Elementary School, which is a part of BEAUMONT ISD, we noted a huge gap in ratings.
Pietzsch/Mac Arthur Elementary School has a regular student population of 982 with a 14.6 students/teacher ratio while Dishman Elementary School has 514 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17.6 students/teacher ratio.
Pietzsch/Mac Arthur Elementary School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365 (Not Rated per SB 1365) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 43 in student achievement, 58 in school progress and 55 in closing performance gaps. It scored 57 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Dishman Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 60 in student achievement, 80 in school progress, 78 in closing performance gaps and 79 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Pietzsch/Mac Arthur Elementary School and Dishman Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at Pietzsch/Mac Arthur Elementary School. They make up for 58.04% of student population, followed by Hispanics (36.86%), Whites or Caucasians (2.55%), Two or More Races (1.32%), Native Americans (0.61%) and Asians (0.51%).
At Dishman Elementary School, African Americans are the biggest group, comprising 59.73% of student population, followed by Hispanics (23.15%), Whites or Caucasians (8.95%), Asians (5.45%), Two or More Races (2.14%) and Native Americans (0.39%).
Based on household incomes, Pietzsch/Mac Arthur Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 96.03% compared to 82.49% at Dishman Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Pietzsch/Mac Arthur Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 26.88% of its student population compared to 12.26% at Dishman Elementary School.
In addition, Pietzsch/Mac Arthur Elementary School has 26.58% bilingual students, 1.63% are in the gifted and talented program, while 12.73% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Dishman Elementary School with 11.67% bilingual students, 8.75% gifted and talented students and 13.04% students in the special education program.
