When we compared Pearland J H South, which is a part of PEARLAND ISD, with Leon H Sablatura Middle School, which is a part of PEARLAND ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Pearland J H South’s regular student population is 891 with a 17 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Leon H Sablatura Middle School is 944 students and a 18.2 students/teacher ratio.
Pearland J H South earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. It is in this area where the two schools differ. Pearland J H South’s four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science, post-secondary and with 25% student progress. Leon H Sablatura Middle School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary and with 25% student progress.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Pearland J H South. They make up for 46.80% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (25.14%), African Americans (19.08%), Asians (5.05%), Two or More Races (3.25%) and Native Americans (0.45%).
The student population at Leon H Sablatura Middle School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 41.21%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (25.42%), Asians (18.86%), African Americans (9.75%), Two or More Races (4.56%) and Native Americans (0.21%).
Based on household incomes, Pearland J H South’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 47.59% compared to 32.63% at Leon H Sablatura Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Pearland J H South has 123 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 13.80% of student population. Leon H Sablatura Middle School has significantly more ELLs at 158 or about 16.74% of student population.
In addition, Pearland J H South has 21.55% bilingual students, 2.81% are in the gifted and talented program, while 9.43% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Leon H Sablatura Middle School with 22.88% bilingual students, 36.65% gifted and talented students and 9.11% students in the special education program.
