Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. It is in this area where the two schools differ. Nye Elementary School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Salinas Elementary School’s two out of seven distinctions are in Science and with 25% student progress.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Nye Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 98.72% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (0.80%) and Asians (0.48%). There is no African Americans, Native Americans and Two or More Racesstudents in the school.
At Salinas Elementary School, Hispanics make up 99.72% of student population, followed by African Americans (0.14%) and Asians (0.14%). There is no Native Americans, Two or More Races and Whites or Caucasians students in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Nye Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 75.16% compared to 84.68% at Salinas Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Nye Elementary School has 244 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 39.10% of student population. Salinas Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 381 or about 54.04% of student population.
Nye Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 49.20%, gifted and talented students, 10.42%, while 12.18% are in the special education program. Salinas Elementary School bilingual students comprise 55.89%, gifted and talented students, 4.82%, and 11.06% are in the special education program.
