When we compared Morris Middle School, which is a part of PASADENA ISD, with Carter Lomax Middle School, which is a part of PASADENA ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Morris Middle School’s regular student population is 714 with a 11.6 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Carter Lomax Middle School is 636 students and a 13.2 students/teacher ratio.
Morris Middle School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. It is in this area where the two schools differ. Morris Middle School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Carter Lomax Middle School’s three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics and with 25% student progress.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Morris Middle School is Hispanics who make up nearly 70.73% of student population, followed by African Americans (18.49%), Asians (6.16%), Whites or Caucasians (3.78%) and Two or More Races (0.70%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Carter Lomax Middle School, Hispanics make up 80.35% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (11.32%), Asians (3.77%), African Americans (3.14%), Two or More Races (1.10%) and Native Americans (0.31%).
Based on household incomes, Morris Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 78.71% compared to 67.30% at Carter Lomax Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Morris Middle School has a higher number of English Language Learners comprising 28.15% of its student population compared to 31.45% at Carter Lomax Middle School.
In addition, Morris Middle School has 23.81% bilingual students, 5.18% are in the gifted and talented program, while 15.55% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Carter Lomax Middle School with 22.64% bilingual students, 8.96% gifted and talented students and 12.89% students in the special education program.
