As your children go through high school, choosing the right school is equally important as deciding on a perfect home. When we compared McNeil High School, which is a part of ROUND ROCK ISD, with Cedar Ridge High School, which is a part of ROUND ROCK ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
McNeil High School’s regular student population is 2,479 with a student-teacher ratio of 14.2 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Cedar Ridge High School is 2,739 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15.6 students/teacher ratio.
McNeil High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 95 in student achievement, 87 in school progress and 85 in closing performance gaps. It scored 92 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Cedar Ridge High School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 90 in student achievement, 82 in school progress, 83 in closing performance gaps and 88 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. McNeil High School's four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science and post-secondary. Cedar Ridge High School’s two out of seven distinctions are in Science and post-secondary.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at McNeil High School. They make up for 36.39% of student population, followed by Hispanics (24.69%), Asians (22.95%), African Americans (10.85%), Two or More Races (4.76%) and Native Americans (0.32%).
The student population at Cedar Ridge High School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 38.81%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (34.79%), African Americans (12.78%), Asians (8.32%), Two or More Races (4.56%) and Native Americans (0.55%).
Based on household incomes, the McNeil High School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 21.18% compared to 25.78% at Cedar Ridge High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, McNeil High School has 172 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 6.94% of student population. Cedar Ridge High School has significantly more ELLs at 267 or about 9.75% of student population.
McNeil High School’s bilingual students comprise 6.45%, gifted and talented students, 12.06%, while 10.49% are in the special education program. Cedar Ridge High School bilingual students comprise 9.64%, gifted and talented students, 9.09%, and 11.61% are in the special education program.
McNeil High School's 174 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 12.1 years. Cedar Ridge High School's 175 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 5.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 11.6 years.
Of its teaching staff, McNeil High School has six teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 30 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 49 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 36 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 40 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 13 beginning teachers. Cedar Ridge High School has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 25 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 61 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 46 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 38 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including four beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. McNeil High School employs 109 female teachers and 64 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 34 special education teachers are being assisted by 29 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs six staff members in the school administration department and 26 more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Cedar Ridge High School employs 101 female teachers and 74 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 30 special education teachers are being assisted by 23 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs seven staff members in the school administration department and 22 more working as school support staff.
