It is in this area where the two schools differ. McGowen Elementary School’s only distinction designation is in Comparative Academic Growth. De Chaumes Elementary School's four out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at McGowen Elementary School. They make up for 60.35% of student population, followed by Hispanics (38.64%), Whites or Caucasians (0.51%) and Two or More Races (0.51%). There is no Asians and Native Americansstudents in the school.

Based on household incomes, McGowen Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 99.24% compared to 97.28% at De Chaumes Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, McGowen Elementary School has 86 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 21.72% of student population. De Chaumes Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 418 or about 56.79% of student population.
In addition, McGowen Elementary School has 20.45% bilingual students, 5.05% are in the gifted and talented program, while 7.58% are in the special education program. This stacks up against De Chaumes Elementary School with 54.35% bilingual students, 5.30% gifted and talented students and 7.74% students in the special education program.
